The Gordon Research Conference on Gaseous Ions: Structures, Energetics and Reactions focuses on the fundamentals of gas-phase ion chemistry and its applications to a wide range of practical problems. The meeting emphasizes the development of new techniques for studying structures, reactivity, and energetics of gaseous ions and their applications to systems ranging from small polyatomic ions to nanoparticles and megadalton protein complexes. Topics include structural characterization of gaseous ions, fundamentals of ionization, activation, and dissociation; ion-molecule, ion-ion, ion-electron, and ion-surface interactions, ion reactivity in nanodroplets, ion-induced nucleation of nanoparticles, and other. The conference will highlight both experimental and theoretical advances in the field and emphasize the impact of gas-phase ion chemistry on chemical analysis using mass spectrometry as well as understanding nucleation of nanoparticles, ion reactivity on surfaces of interest to catalysis and energy conversion, synthesis in nanodroplets, and chemical transformations of atmospheric particles.
The conference will include 25 invited talks and 4 poster sessions covering a wide range of topics that will provide both a broad overview of the field and demonstrate synergy between different research directions. About twelve of the poster abstracts will be selected for 10 minute "late-breaking topic" talks during the conference sessions. Late-breaking topic selection will be done about a month before the meeting. The format of the meeting will allow all participants to present their latest results and discuss them with experts in the field. Funds should be available to offset the participation cost for young investigators.
